18 FEBRUARY: The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv participated in the Global Village international exhibit held in conjunction with the 25th The Israel Middle East Model United Nations (TIMEMUN) Conference at Walworth Barbour American International School (AIS) in the central Israel town of Even Yehuda.

The Conference gathered hundreds of high school students to take part in Model UN sessions and debates, which discussed global issues such as geopolitical conflicts, climate change, immigration, and human rights.

The Global Village featured national kiosks/booths set up by invited embassies. The Philippine booth, the largest in the group, showcased the breathtaking destinations across the Philippines and the dizzying array of experiences and adventures for tourists to enjoy.

The Embassy debuted DOT’s newly-released tourism campaign song, Love the Philippines, sung by pop sensation Morisette. Visitors were amazed by the photos and videos of Philippine tourist sites and browsed Hebrew-language guidebooks and brochures on display. Guests then had a taste of well-loved Pinoy chicheria and sipped buko juice from Lipa, Batangas.

They also tried on Filipiniana-inspired attire and gamely posed for selfies at the kiosk’s photoshoot corner. The ponchos they wore were made of inabel and other northern Luzon traditional textiles, courtesy of Kenro Boutique. The garments are made by communities of artisanal weavers in Cordillera, Ifugao, and Ilocos.

The corner also displayed quality Philippine products and heritage items such as hand-woven piña jusi barong and terno from Lumban, traditional salakot and hats, capiz shell décor, and lighting fixtures made of buri and rattan.

The Embassy was invited by Mr. Steven Aiello of TIMEMUN and AIS officials to join the event.

Those wanting to plan their dream Philippine vacation, taste Pinoy food, and get to know more about the Philippines may get in touch with the Embassy through email (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Facebook page (@PHinIsrael).

The Embassy will post announcements on where and when the Philippine kiosk will be set up next. END
