20 August 2014, Tel Aviv, State of Israel – The Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv called on Filipinos in Israel to vote the Heritage City of Vigan as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Vigan recently qualified for the top 21 finalists of the search with the overwhelming support of Filipinos and other voters around the world.

The centuries-old city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is among the few remaining places in the Philippines boasting of well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture. It now vies with 20 other cities from Africa, America, Europe and the Middle East for the prestigious position.

In order to reach the finals, Vigan needs to qualify in two more elimination rounds scheduled from 7 July to 7 October 2014 (21 to 14 finalists) and 7 October to 7 December 2014 (14 to 7 finalists). Votes for the City of Vigan are highly needed in the succeeding rounds as all scores in the competition will be back to zero.

Launched in 2012, the New7Wonders Cities of the World is the third global vote organized by the New7Wonders, following the successful campaigns for the New7Wonders of the World and New7Wonders of Nature, which includes the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park.
